Class Descriptions
Parent Tot: This class is 45 minutes and meets once a week. It is for children from 18 months to 2 years old with an accompanying parent (or parents). Class begins with basic stretches and exercises that build coordination and flexibility. The instructor then shows parents how to assist their child as they maneuver through obstacle courses and learn basic gymnastics skills on floor, balance beam, rings and bars. Parents and toddlers also have the opportunity to jump on trampolines, play with exercise balls and explore the foam pit. Children learn body awareness, coordination, basic body positions and gain courage to try new things!
I‘m Big Two: This class is 45 minutes and meets once a week. It is for children who are 2 years old. In this class, children maneuver through obstacle courses and learn basic gymnastics skills on floor, balance beam, rings and bars. Children learn healthy separation from parents and become independent, developing social skills as they follow directions, interact with other children and adhere to the structure of the class. Students in this class learn body awareness, coordination, and gain courage to try new things!
Free to be Three: This class is 1 hour and meets once a week. It is for children who are 3 years old. In this class, instructors demonstrate and explain beginning concepts on each event, encouraging listening, cooperation and imitation. This is a fun and safe class that helps students explore and grow in confidence. Skills include running, jumping, rolling and safe landing on Vault; front supports, toe touches, swings, chin holds, pullovers and forward roll dismounts on Bars; walking, crawling, balancing, mounts and dismounts on Beam; and handstands, bridges, cartwheel preparation, forward and backward rolls on Floor. The class also includes regular trampoline time on in-ground trampolines.
Girls Mites 1: This class is 1 hour long and meets once a week. It is a beginning gymnastics class for preschool girls, ages 4-6. Girls Mites 1 instructors use demonstration, spotting and verbal explanation to teach new skills on each event. They may also use drills and repetition to emphasize important aspects of new skills. Skills include a correct run and hurdle to a forward roll on Vault; important body positions and strength building exercises on Bars; walking, balancing, rolling and preparing for handstands on Beam; and bridges, bridge kickovers, handstands, cartwheels and rolls on Floor.
Girls Mites 2: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. It is for preschool girls who have had some previous training or have advanced from Girls Mites 1. This class builds upon knowledge, strength and flexibility that have already been acquired. Instructors emphasize building strength in order to prepare for more advanced gymnastics. New skills include drills to prepare for handstands and front handsprings on Vault; pullovers, casts, swings, squat-on preparation and mill circle preparation on Bars; dance concepts, jumps and handstands on Beam; and cartwheels, handstands, rolls, back bends, bridge kickovers, and back handspring preparation on Floor.
Girls Mites 3: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. Girls who are ages 4-6 and who have advanced from Girls Mites 2 are eligible to enroll in Girls Mites 3, the most advanced level of our preschool program. Upon completion of this level, students can enter either our recreational or developmental (team preparatory) program at an advanced level. New skills include handstand hops, dive rolls and handstand to back on Vault; back hip circles, pullovers, tap swings, glide swings, shoot-throughs and mill circle preparation on Bars; handstands, leaps, jumps, turns, arabesques and dismount preparation on Beam; and round offs, handstand forward rolls, front limbers and back handsprings on Floor.
Girls Mighty Mites 1: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets 2-3 times per week (depending on student preference). It is the beginning of our team preparatory program for girls ages 4-6 and can only be entered through a coach‘s recommendation. Girls in Mighty Mites 1 are eligible to try out for Team. Gymnasts perfect and combine skills learned in Mites 3, adding difficulty and spending more time conditioning and working on each event in order to build a solid foundation for more advancement.
Girls Mighty Mites 2: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets 2-3 times per week (depending on student preference). It is for girls ages 4-6 who have advanced from Mighty Mites 1 and is the last step before entering the Pre-team program. Students at this level focus on strength, form and technique and must be able to perform and understand (with assistance) all USAG level 4 skills. Girls in Mighty Mites 2 are eligible to try out for Team. New skills include handstand ‘block‘ on Vault; shoot through/mill circle/leg cuts, back hip circle under swing dismounts, front hip circle preparation and long hang pullovers on Bars; dismounts and cartwheels on Beam; and back walkovers, round off back handsprings, front handsprings and dive rolls on Floor.
JO Mites: This class is 1 ¼ - 1 ½ hours and meets 2 times per week. It is an invitation only developmental (team preparatory) program for girls ages 3-6. This class meets on Wednesdays and Fridays for 3-4 year olds, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 4-6 year olds. By beginning the team track at this young age, children are able to become strong, flexible and agile, which prepares them for greater difficulty at a younger age. By focusing on a limited curriculum they develop muscle memory much faster than those in a weekly class. JO Mites encompasses vault running and punching techniques, bar strength, beam and floor basics, strength and flexibility.
Girls Recreational Level 1A: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have never taken gymnastics classes or have limited experience in gymnastics. Level 1A is the first step of the beginning recreational program. Instructors use demonstration, spotting and verbal explanation to teach new skills on each event. They may also use drills and repetition to emphasize important aspects of new skills. Skills include a correct run and hurdle to a forward roll on Vault; important body positions, strength building exercises, pullovers and forward roll dismounts on Bars; walks, kicks, straight jumps, rolls and handstand preparation on Beam; and bridges, bridge kickovers, handstands, cartwheel preparation and rolls on Floor.
Girls Recreational Level 1B: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have had some previous training or have advanced from Level 1A. Level 1B is the second step of the beginning recreational program. Instructors emphasize performing skills from 1A with good form and consistency. New skills include handstand ‘treefalls‘ on Vault; swing re-grasps, casts and squat-on preparation on Bars; dance concepts, arabesques and jumps on Beam; and cartwheels, straddle rolls, back bends, bridge kickovers and back handspring preparation on Floor.
Girls Recreational Level 2A: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have either been evaluated and approved by an NGC staff member or have advanced from Level 1B. Level 2A is the first step of the intermediate recreational program. New skills include dive rolls, handstand hops, front handsprings into the foam pit and handstands on Vault; back hip circles, tap swings and shoot-through preparation on Bars; mounts, jumps, leaps, turns and handstands on Beam; round-offs, back bend kickovers, front limbers, straight arm backward rolls and back handsprings on Floor.
Girls Recreational Level 2B: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have either been evaluated and approved by an NGC staff member or have advanced from Level 2A. Level 2B is the second step of the intermediate recreational program. New skills include drills on Vault; mill circle preparation, pull ups and single leg shoot throughs on Bars; dismounts, cartwheels and connected jumps on Beam; and handstand forward rolls, dive rolls and front handsprings on Floor.
Girls Recreational Level 3A: This class is 2 hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have advanced from Level 2B. Level 3A is the first step of the advanced recreational program. Instructors place increased emphasis on strength, form, technique, and flexibility. Girls in Level 3A are eligible to try out for Team. New skills include front handsprings on trampoline and handstand hops on floor for Vault; casts to horizontal, glide swings, long hang pullovers, squat-ons, back hip circle underswing dismounts and mill circles with assistance on Bars; handstand ¼ turn dismount preparation and handstands on higher Beams; and back walkovers, back extension rolls and round off back handsprings on Floor.
Girls Recreational Level 3B: This class is 2 hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6 and up who have advanced from Level 3A. Level 3B is the second step of the advanced recreational program. Instructors place increased emphasis on strength, form, technique, and flexibility. At this level most of the skills taught in previous levels should be performed consistently with clean lines. Girls in Level 3B are eligible to try out for Team. New skills include flysprings on trampoline, handstand ‘block‘ to back and front handsprings over the Vault; 2 back hip circles, mill circles, front hip circle preparation and leg cuts on Bars; back walkovers, side handstand ¼ turn dismounts and cartwheels on high Beam; and front handsprings, round off back handsprings, a standing back handspring and 2 back handsprings on Floor.
Dyno-Nitro: This class is 2 hours and meets 2-3 times per week (depending on student preference). It is a developmental (team preparatory) class for girls ages 7 and up and can only be entered through a coach‘s recommendation. Dyno Nitro can include Levels 2B, 3A, and 3B. Girls in Dyno Nitro are eligible to try out for Team. Instructors place strong emphasis upon acquiring strength and flexibility and students are expected to perform all skills from previous levels with consistency and clean lines and to learn all USAG Level 4 skills. Students also become comfortable doing skills without the use of extra mats or spotting and with the use of standard equipment (higher beams, low and high bar, team vaults, etc.).
Girls Pre-Team: This class is 2 ½ hours and meets 2-3 times per week (depending on student preference). It is for girls ages 7 and up and can only be entered through a coach’s recommendation. Pre-Team is the most advanced class in the developmental program and is geared for students who hope to enter competitive gymnastics. Students at this level are eligible to try out for team and instructors train students for team participation. Gymnasts are required to master all USAG Level 4 skills, and, upon mastery of these skills, to train for USAG Level 5 and 6.
Girls Optional Skills Training: This class is 2 ½ hours and meets 2 times per week. It is for girls ages 7 and up and can only be entered after advancing from Pre-Team. This class is for students who have the skill level of a competitive gymnast, but do not wish to compete as a part of NGC‘s team. Instructors teach students according to their individual skill level. Skills may include front handsprings, twisting front handsprings and Tsuk timers on Vault; kips, clear hip circles, cast to handstands, fly aways, giant drills and long-hang pullovers on Bars; back walkovers and back handsprings on Beam; and front tucks, back layouts, aerials and other tumbling passes on Floor.
Boys Mites 1: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is a beginning gymnastics class for preschool boys, ages 4-5. Boys Mites 1 instructors use demonstration, spotting and verbal explanation to teach new skills on each event. They may also use drills and repetition to emphasize important aspects of new skills. Skills include cartwheels and backward rolls on Floor; half circles, leg cuts and straddle swings on Pommel Horse; swings, tuck hangs and inverted hangs on Rings; stretch jump and ‘stick‘ landings on Vault; swings and tuck support holds on Parallel Bars; and jump to support, chin holds and swings on Horizontal Bar.
Boys Mites 2: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week. It is for preschool boys, ages 4-6, who have had some previous training or have advanced from Boys Mites 1. This class builds upon knowledge, strength and flexibility that have already been acquired. Instructors emphasize building strength in order to prepare for more advanced gymnastics. New skills include back extension roll to prone on Floor; half circles on mushroom on Pommel Horse; swings and ‘L‘ hangs on Rings; stretch jumps and ‘treefalls‘ on Vault; moy swings, upper arms swings and rear dismounts on Parallel Bars; and pullovers and back hip circles on Horizontal Bar.
Boys Mites 3: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week. It is for preschool boys, ages 5-6, who have advanced from Boys Mites 2. New skills include round-offs and dive rolls on Floor; consecutive leg cuts and circles on Pommel Horse; and flyaways, inverted hangs and supports on Rings.
Boys Level 1: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week. It is for boys ages 6 and up who have never taken gymnastics classes. Level 1 is the first step of the boys‘ recreational program. Instructors use demonstration, spotting, and verbal explanation to teach new skills on each event. They may also use drills and repetition to emphasize important aspects of new skills. Skills include round-offs, dive rolls, back extension rolls and back handsprings on trampoline for Floor; circles and leg cuts on Pommel Horse; swings, flyaways, inverted hangs, supports and inlocates on Rings; stretch jumps and ‘treefalls‘ on Vault; moy swings, upper arm swings and dismounts on Parallel Bars; and pullovers, back hip circles and swings on Horizontal Bar.
Boys Level 2: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week. It is for boys ages 6 and up who have advanced from Level 1. Greater emphasis is placed on strength in order to achieve a higher level of gymnastics. New skills include round-off back handspring on Floor; false scissors on Pommel Horse; shoulder stand, back uprise and 2 inlocates on Rings; front salto and ¾ layout into resi for Vault; swing to handstands on Parallel Bars; and swing to pullover and kips on Horizontal Bar.
Boys Level 3: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week. It is for boys ages 6 and up who have advanced from Level 2. New skills include front handsprings, front salto and press to handstands on Floor; loop on floor horse, 5 circles on mushroom, and false scissor to immediate leg cut on Pommel Horse; swings to layout flyaway, 2 inlocates to assisted uprise and dislocates with release on Rings; layout front and handspring over vault trainer on Vault; 5 second handstands, shoulder stands, ‘L seats‘ and kips on Parallel Bars; and swing to back uprise, long hang pullover and flyaways on Horizontal Bar.
Boys Level 4: This class is 2 hours and meets 2-3 times per week (depending on student preference). It is for boys ages 6 and up who have advanced from Level 3. New skills include round off 2 back handsprings and front handsprings on Floor; 3 loops, 10 circles on mushroom and false scissors to immediate scissor on Pommel Horse; dislocates to flyaways and ‘L seats‘ on Rings; layout fronts on tumble track and handsprings on Vault; press from ‘L‘ position and moy with assistance on Parallel Bars; and uprise free hip circles and cast to handstands on Horizontal Bar.
Mites Tumbling and Trampoline 1: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for children ages 4-6 who have little or no previous tumbling experience. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students basic tumbling skills and concepts. These include, but are not limited to, forward and backward rolls, bridges, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, back handspring preparation and accompanying drills. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Tumbling and Trampoline 1: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for children ages 6 and up who have little or no previous tumbling experience. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students basic tumbling skills and concepts. These include, but are not limited to, forward and backward rolls, bridges, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, back handspring preparation and accompanying drills. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Tumbling and Trampoline 2: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for children ages 6 and up who have some previous tumbling experience or have advanced from Tumbling and Trampoline 1. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students tumbling skills and concepts. These include, but are not limited to, back bend kick-over on floor, round-off back handspring on resi pit, front handspring preparation, front tucks into foam pit, and various jumps and tumbling skills on the trampoline. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Tumbling and Trampoline 3: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for children ages 6 and up who have significant previous tumbling experience and have been evaluated by an NCG staff member or have advanced from Tumbling and Trampoline 2. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students tumbling skills and concepts. These include, but are not limited to, back walkovers, front limbers, standing back handsprings, round-off back handspring on floor, and punch front on tumble track. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Tumbling and Trampoline 4: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for children ages 6 and up who have significant previous tumbling experience and have been evaluated by a NGC staff member or have advanced from Tumbling and Trampoline 3. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students tumbling skills and concepts. These include, but are not limited to, back and front walkovers, standing back handsprings on floor, front handsprings on floor, round-off 2 back handsprings on floor and round off back handspring back tuck/layout on floor. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Adult Tumbling: This class is 1 hour and meets once per week. It is for adults ages 18 and up who have an interest in learning how to tumble. Instructors will tailor the class to match students’ level of skill and experience. Instructors divide training between the floor exercise and in-ground trampolines, teaching students tumbling skills and concepts. The class may cover any of the skills listed under Tumbling and Trampoline 1-4. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, in-ground trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Specialty Classes: These classes are 45 minutes and meet once per week. They are for students of any age. Students taking Back Handspring 101 and 201 focus exclusively on learning to do a back handspring. Once they are able to do this skill consistently, they may learn to connect it with other skills (round-offs, two back handsprings, etc.). Students taking Back Tuck 101 focus exclusively on learning to do a back tuck. They will also learn how to connect this skill with a round-off or round-off back handspring. Students have access to the spring floor, in ground resi pits, loose foam pits, trampolines, tumble track, and air rod floor.
Cheerleading Classes: This class is 1 ½ hours and meets once per week for children ages 5-16. It is one of our newest specialty classes, providing athletes the knowledge and means to enter our competitive NEA Cheer program in the future. Accommodating a ratio of 10 to 1, this class will challenge and motivate girls and boys of any age to become more involved in the sport of Cheer. Students are challenged at their individual level to improve jumps and tumbling. Throughout the 10 week session nearly every aspect of the sport (at a competitive level) is covered. This includes arm positions, stances, chants, cheers, jumps, dances and tumbling sequences. Join this high energy class today!
Private Lessons: Students may schedule private lessons with any NGC staff member that has availability. Private lessons are generally ½ to 1 hour and hourly rates are determined individually between students and instructors. Students are free to focus on any specific skills or events that they would like to work on, and are able to receive more individualized instruction. Private lessons are a great way to tackle skills that present particular difficulty.
