girls recreational gymnastics class descriptions:

Level 1 Beginner Girls

This class is 1.5 hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6-9 or 10-13 years who have never taken gymnastics classes. Level 1 Beginner is the first step of the beginning recreational program. Instructors use demonstration, spotting, and verbal explanation to teach new skills on each event. They may also use drills and repetition to emphasize important aspects of new skills. Skills include a correct run and hurdle to a Handstand “fall to back” (the Level 2 & 3 competitive vault) on Resi mats for Vault; important body positions, strength building exercises, including pullovers and forward roll dismounts on Bars; walks, kicks, straight jumps, rolls and handstand preparation on Beam; and bridges, bridges kickovers, handstands, cartwheel preparation and rolls on Floor.

Level 1 Advanced Beginner Girls

This class is 1.5 hours and meets once a week.  It is for girls ages 6-9 or 10-13 years who have had some previous training or have advanced from Level 1 Beg. Level 1 Adv Beg is the second step of the beginning recreational program. Instructors emphasize performing skills from 1 with good form and consistency. New skills include handstand “treefalls” on Vault; swing re-grasp, casts, and squat on preparation on Bars; dance concepts, arabesques and jumps on Beam; and cartwheels, straddle rolls, back bends, bridge kickovers and back handspring preparation on Floor.

Level 2 Intermediate Girls

This class is 1.5 hours and meets once a week.  It is for girls ages 6-9 or 10-13 years who have had some previous training or have advanced from Level 1 Beginner and Advanced Beginner. Level 2 Intermediate is the 3rd step of the girls recreational class program. Instructors emphasize performing skills from with good form and consistency. New skills include back handsprings, front handsprings, cartwheels, cross and side handstands on the beam & mill circles, front hip circles and glide swings/kip concepts on bars. Strength and flexibility have a greater focus and importance at this level as most of these skills begin to emerge quickly when the gymnasts has increased her strength.

Level 2 Advanced Intermediate Girls

This class is 2 hours and meets once a week. It is for girls ages 6-9 or 10-14 years who have met the requirements of girls Level 1 Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Level 2 Intermediate. Level 2 Advanced intermediate is the highest recreational  girls class level before “Optional Skill Training” or our High School gymnastics program. Gymnasts generally advance to these programs or to Dyno Nitro or Pre Team (which are multiple day a week developmental programs.)
